The Buffalo Sabres won a hockey game.  Wow!, haven't heard that in a while.  They beat the Bruins 4-1 in front of a sell-out crowd at HSBC Arena in Buffalo, NY.  The victory leaves the Sabres down 3-2 in the best of 7 series to the Boston Bruins.

There was a healthy crowd of screaming fans outside the Arena, watching the game on a big screen TV.  Due to combo of the Bills drafting players and the Sabres playing what could have been their final game, All Buffalo liquor stores were rumored to be out of inventory.  Good thing most Buffalonians carry an emergency flask on his/her person at all times.

Here's how it went down.  The crowd inside the HSBC Arena was energetic, but it was nervous energy.  Are we going to be the crowd that witnesses the handshake line and the end of the Sabres season?  They wouldn't be subjected to the handshake today.  The Sabres did get a helping hand from Tuuka Rask who deflected the puck into his own net 1:54 into the first period.  Adam Mair served up the puck from Gretzky's Office and it deflected into the net off Rask's left pad.  Nathan Gerbe had a nice assist, feeding Mair the puck behind the net.  Cody McCormick had the secondary assist.

Seventeen minutes later, The POPULATION of POMINVILLE increased by ONE as Jason lit the lamp with an easy deke off a nice feed by the diminutive Derek Roy.  Tyler 'don't judge me by the size of my' Ennis, had the second assist.

Half way thru Period two, Mike Grier (Beast Mode) made it 3 to nothing with a Slapper that beat Rask.   Assist to Gaustad.

Johnny Boychuk broke up the No-Hitter in the 17th minute of the 3rd period on a Power Play slap shot from the point.  Tyler Ennis secured the victory with an empty netter a few seconds later.

An end of game scrum ensued saw Ryan Miller drop his goalie mits and get in the face of Miroslav Satan. Although it originally appeared to be a hockey related argument It was later found out they were debating the finer points of Fyodor Dostoyevsky's, 'Brothers Karamazov'.  Zdeno Chara was seen tustling with Cody McCormick, Andrej Sekera, Marc Recchi, Craig Rivet, Paul Gaustad, David Krejci, and Hunwick for the Bruins were also involved.            ...See ya Monday

Link to End of game melee:

Nathan Gerbe played an important role.  Cody McCormick continued to justify his presence on the team.  And The first line showed up, with Pominville and Roy getting in on the scoring.  Even though Ennis' goal was an EN, it it a just reward for the effort the youngster has put into his time up with the big squad.

The Sabres will travel to Boston on Monday, 7pm ET (9am Tues Korea) The game can be heard on MSG in WNY, or any number of internet sites.  Email me at to obtain these options.

Thank You Sabres for making me forget the debacle occuring at One Bills Drive for at least the weekend.

This has been enjoyable; let's keep it going, Sabres!
